Chapter 7 - The Double Cross
Chloe stared at the mafia boss, completely confused by his highly dangerous demand.
Dominic calmly explained that Detective Miller was actually the corrupt cop currently running Varga's loan shark operation.
Miller wanted the ledger not to arrest Dominic, but to brutally blackmail him for total control of the city's ports.
Dominic ordered Chloe to play the role of the terrified informant perfectly and hand the drive over as planned.
He promised that his men would completely surround the drop point and eliminate Miller the second the exchange happened.
Chloe reluctantly agreed, knowing she had absolutely no other choice to survive this deadly game.
The next night, the city was battered by an incredibly violent thunderstorm.
Chloe walked alone to the designated drop point under a rusted bridge near the dark shipping docks.
The rain soaked through her thin coat as she waited anxiously in the pitch-black shadows.
Miller finally arrived in an unmarked black sedan, stepping out into the mud with a triumphant smirk.
He demanded the flash drive, completely ignoring the torrential rain soaking his expensive suit.
Chloe handed him the silver drive, her heart hammering violently against her bruised ribs.
Miller laughed loudly and pulled his heavy service weapon, aiming it directly at her chest.
He smoothly told her that the federal witness protection program was a pathetic, bold-faced lie.
He fully intended to execute her right here in the mud to completely tie up his loose ends.
Chloe squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for Dominic's snipers to immediately take the corrupt cop down.
Ten agonizing seconds passed, and absolutely no gunfire rang out from the dark shipping containers.
Dominic's men were entirely gone, and she was completely alone with her executioner.
Miller pulled back the hammer of his gun, laughing at her desperate, absolute terror.

Suddenly, a massive, deafening explosion ripped through the air, but it did not come from a sniper rifle.
Miller's unmarked black sedan completely exploded in a massive fireball, throwing the corrupt detective violently into the deep mud.
