Chapter 6 - The Broken Trust

Dominic did not yell, threaten, or immediately draw his weapon.

He simply stared at Chloe with eyes that were entirely devoid of any human emotion.

He casually asked her if the federal agent had offered her enough money to justify her betrayal.

Chloe took a deep breath, completely refusing to cower before the man who had ruined her father's life.

She proudly admitted to copying the ledger and accused Dominic of intentionally destroying her family for real estate.

Dominic actually laughed, a cold, bitter sound that echoed loudly through the empty restaurant.

He walked to the desk, pulled out a thick manila folder, and tossed it violently onto the floor at her feet.

He told her to read the official property deeds before she played the role of the righteous victim.

Chloe slowly picked up the folder and opened the heavy legal documents inside.

The waterfront property had never belonged to her father at all.

Her father had secretly stolen the property deeds from Dominic's legitimate holding company ten years ago.

Her father was not an innocent gambling addict; he was a master thief who had been stealing from the mob for decades.

Dominic explained that he only bought the debt from Varga to quietly recover his stolen assets without starting a violent gang war.

Chloe felt the entire room spin as the horrific reality of her father's dark legacy crashed down upon her.

She looked at the silver flash drive in her hand and realized she had just betrayed the only man who had actually protected her.

She immediately offered the drive back to Dominic, begging for his forgiveness and promising absolute loyalty.

Dominic shook his head slowly, looking at her with a terrifying mixture of disappointment and cold calculation.

He told her she could not give the drive back, because he absolutely needed her to deliver it to Detective Miller tomorrow night.
