Chapter 10 - The False Victory

"Drop your weapons or the kid dies!" the desperate guard screamed from the deck of the ship.
Dominic slowly lowered his rifle, raising his empty hands to show he was completely unarmed.
"Let her go, and I will let you walk away with your life," Dominic promised, his voice echoing across the water.
The guard laughed nervously, pressing the barrel harder against Lily's tiny head.
Lily did not cry; she just stared down at her mother with wide, terrified eyes.
"Mommy!" Lily called out softly, her voice barely carrying over the wind.
Dominic caught Enzo's eye in the periphery and gave a microscopic nod.
Enzo, hidden in the sniper nest on a crane above, squeezed the trigger with absolute precision.
The heavy bullet severed the guard's spinal cord instantly, dropping him dead before his finger could even twitch.
Dominic sprinted up the gangway, scooping Lily into his arms and pulling her safely against his chest.
He carried her down to the pier and placed her directly into Clara's desperate, waiting arms.
Clara fell to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably as she hugged her daughter and her mother together.
The remaining Russian forces were entirely wiped out, and Dominic's empire had emerged completely victorious.
They drove back to the heavily guarded mansion, the nightmare finally feeling like a distant, fading memory.
Lily fell asleep in Dominic's arms, her head resting peacefully against the folded crayon drawing still in his vest pocket.
Dominic placed the little girl gently into her bed, pulling the warm blankets up to her chin.
He walked out into the hallway, expecting to find Clara waiting for him with a smile.
Instead, he found Enzo standing in the dark corridor, his face completely pale and his hands shaking.
Enzo held out the silver tablet, displaying a highly classified, encrypted DNA report they had run on the girl.
"Boss, you need to read this right now," Enzo whispered, his voice trembling with sheer terror.
Dominic took the tablet and read the genetic match results, his blood turning instantly to ice.
Lily was not Clara's biological daughter.

Lily was the kidnapped, missing heir to the Supreme Head of the Sicilian Mafia.
And Clara was not an abused wife; she was the international assassin who had stolen her, bringing the wrath of the entire global underworld directly to Dominic's doorstep.
