Chapter 6 - The Misunderstanding

Marin watched from the shadows as Elias furiously directed his loyal men to secure the burning mansion.
He had clearly rushed back from his business trip after receiving the automated fire alarms on his phone.
Marin knew she had to warn Elias about Julian's ultimate betrayal before his brother could strike again.
She left Adelaide safely hidden in the armored SUV and crept silently through the dark, wet forest.
She moved closer to the driveway, staying perfectly hidden behind the thick trunk of an ancient oak tree.
Elias was screaming at a terrified guard, demanding to know where his mother and the night nurse were.
Before Marin could step out of the shadows to reveal herself, Julian ran out of the burning house.
Julian was covered in fake blood and soot, acting like a desperate hero who had barely survived a massacre.
He violently grabbed Elias's shoulders and sobbed a beautifully rehearsed, heartbreaking lie.
Julian claimed that the innocent-looking night nurse was actually a highly trained cartel assassin.
He told Elias that Marin had slaughtered the security team, set the house on fire, and kidnapped their mother.
Elias's face twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated rage and devastating heartbreak.
He raised his assault rifle to the sky and ordered every single man on his payroll to hunt Marin down.
He promised a million dollars in cold cash to whoever brought him the head of the night nurse.
Marin realized with terrifying clarity that she was now entirely trapped between two warring factions.
The men trying to murder Adelaide were hunting her, and the men trying to save Adelaide were hunting her too.

She took a slow step backward into the dark woods, but a dry branch snapped loudly under her tactical boot.
Elias instantly spun around, aimed his rifle directly at the tree she was hiding behind, and ordered his men to open fire.
