Chapter 9 - The Chaos

The blinking red and blue lights of the police cruisers flooded through the diner windows.

Armed officers swarmed the parking lot, shouting loud commands through their heavy megaphones.

Arthur's bodyguards immediately dropped their weapons, realizing they were completely surrounded and outgunned.

Arthur stood in the center of the diner, looking furiously at the police officers rushing through the doors.

They violently forced the arrogant billionaire to his knees and handcuffed his wrists behind his back.

David ignored the chaos around him and rushed over to the booth where Chloe was hiding.

He pulled her out from under the table and hugged her tighter than he ever had before.

Chloe was shaking violently, the adrenaline crashing hard in her system.

But Arthur's final, venomous words were still echoing loudly in her head.

"What did he mean, Dad?" Chloe asked, her voice trembling with fear and confusion.

"What did he mean when he said I am not your daughter?"

David looked down at her, his eyes welling with fresh, agonizing tears.

He gently cupped her face in his hands and kissed her forehead.

"Your mother was very sick and unhappy during the first few years of our marriage," David explained softly.

"She made a terrible mistake one night with a man she met at a hotel."

David confessed that when Chloe was born, he secretly took a paternity test just to be sure.

The results proved that he shared absolutely zero DNA with the little girl.

"But I loved you the second I held you," David cried, his voice breaking entirely.

"I never told anyone, not even your mother, because you were always my real daughter."

Chloe felt the entire world spinning out of control for the second time that night.

Her grandfather was a murderer, her uncle was Marcus's father, and now her own father was not even her blood relative.

She looked over at Marcus, who was being checked by a paramedic near the counter.

If David was not her biological father, then she shared absolutely no blood with the family.

That meant she and Marcus were not siblings, and they were not even cousins.

They were completely unrelated by blood.

Sarah walked over and placed a comforting hand on David's shoulder.

"It is finally over," Sarah whispered as the police dragged Arthur out to the squad car.

The nightmare of the past eighteen years was completely finished.

But as Chloe watched the police cars drive away, a strange, unknown number texted her phone.
