Chapter 6 - The Grandfather's Arrival

The gravity of Arthur's statement hung heavily in the tense diner air.

Because Richard was the firstborn son, his biological child was technically the primary heir to the entire fortune.

"You want me to take over the company?" Marcus asked, looking incredibly confused.

"I want you to sign away your legal rights to the trust fund," Arthur corrected him sharply.

Arthur reached into his tailored suit jacket and pulled out a thick stack of legal documents.

He tossed the heavy paperwork onto the sticky diner table right next to the birth certificate.

"Sign these papers, and I will graciously wire ten million dollars into a private account for you and your mother."

"If you refuse, I will make sure your mother spends the rest of her miserable life in federal prison."

"On what charges?" Chloe demanded, stepping protectively next to Marcus.

"Extortion, fraud, and kidnapping," Arthur listed off easily, tapping his cane on the floor.

"I have enough paid judges in my pocket to ensure she never sees daylight again."

Marcus looked down at the overwhelming stack of legal documents.

He was just a high school senior who had wanted to go to prom, and now he was caught in a billionaire's war.

"Do not sign anything, Marcus," David ordered, pushing the papers away.

"You have no power here, David," Arthur sneered, looking at his youngest son with pure disgust.

"If you interfere, I will personally hand the police the evidence of your corporate embezzlement."

David's face went completely pale, and Chloe looked at her father in sudden shock.

"It was a trap," David whispered to Chloe, looking thoroughly defeated.

"He forced me to sign those specific financial ledgers last year just to have leverage over me."

Arthur smiled triumphantly and clicked a very expensive pen, holding it out toward Marcus.

"Ten million dollars is a very generous offer for a boy who grew up in a trailer park," Arthur mocked.

Marcus slowly reached his hand out, his fingers trembling as he took the expensive pen.

He looked at Chloe, his eyes silently apologizing for giving up so easily.

He lowered the tip of the pen to the signature line on the very first page.

Suddenly, the heavy glass door at the back of the diner was kicked wide open.

Sarah marched into the room, soaking wet from the rain, holding a loaded pistol aimed directly at Arthur's head.
