Chapter 5 - The Phantom

Alessandro completely froze, his loaded weapon aimed directly at the impossible figure standing in the moonlight.

Isabella looked exactly as she had the day she disappeared, wearing the same pale blue trench coat.

Her dark hair was slightly damp from the evening mist, and her beautiful face was completely pale and emotionless.

Alessandro lowered his gun slowly, his heart hammering violently against his ribs as he stepped toward her.

“Isabella?” he whispered, his voice cracking with immense, unbearable emotion.

He reached out his trembling hand to gently touch her face, entirely expecting her to vanish like a cruel hallucination.

Instead, his fingers brushed against warm, solid skin.

She was absolutely real, standing right in front of him on the manicured lawn of his estate.

Before he could pull her into a desperate embrace, Isabella took a sudden, terrified step backward.

“Do not touch me, Alessandro,” she commanded, her voice cold and entirely devoid of any affection.

Alessandro stopped completely in his tracks, utterly stunned by her harsh, unfamiliar rejection.

“Where have you been for three years?” he pleaded. “We buried an empty casket because they never found your bodies!”

Isabella looked away, tears rapidly welling up in her hollow, exhausted eyes.

She confessed that she had intentionally faked the fatal car crash to escape his violent, dangerous world.

She had paid a corrupt police chief heavily to falsify the accident reports and secretly fled the country with Arya.

She genuinely believed Alessandro’s ruthless enemies would eventually target them if they stayed in New York.

Alessandro felt a massive, crushing weight drop entirely into his stomach.

The profound grief that had completely destroyed his life for three years was entirely based on her elaborate lie.

“Where is Arya?” he demanded, desperately scanning the dark gardens for any sign of his precious daughter.

Isabella began to sob uncontrollably, covering her face with her shaking hands.

She revealed that Falcone’s men had successfully tracked them down in Europe just two weeks ago.

They had brutally kidnapped Arya from her school in Italy and forced Isabella to return to New York.

Falcone was actively using their innocent daughter as the ultimate leverage to steal Alessandro’s entire empire.

Alessandro realized Falcone’s earlier phone call was a deliberate, twisted psychological game to distract him.

“I am so sorry, Alessandro,” Isabella wept. “I only wanted to keep her safe, and I failed completely.”

Alessandro stared at the woman he had mourned for three agonizing years, feeling entirely empty and deeply betrayed.

He had loved her more than life itself, but she had ruthlessly stolen his daughter and lied to him for years.

He turned away from her and looked directly at Sophia, who was watching the shocking scene from the porch.

Sophia’s eyes were wide with genuine, terrified realization as she pulled Emma tightly against her chest.

“Victor!” Alessandro roared into the quiet night, his voice echoing loudly across the massive estate.

His head of security sprinted across the lawn within seconds, his weapon completely drawn and ready.

“Lock my wife in the secure east wing suite and post guards at her door,” Alessandro ordered coldly.

Isabella gasped in pure shock as Victor’s men grabbed her firmly by the arms and dragged her toward the mansion.

Alessandro walked up the steps to the guest house and looked deeply into Sophia’s frightened eyes.

“Pack your bags immediately, Sophia,” he commanded softly but firmly.

“We are leaving the estate tonight, and we are going to get my daughter back.”

Before Sophia could ask a single question, a massive, deafening explosion ripped violently through the main gates of the estate.

Falcone had absolutely not waited for midnight; he had sent his entire army to attack right now.
