Chapter 4 - The Ghost Vehicle

Alessandro’s grip tightened on the phone until his knuckles turned completely white.
His breathing stopped as he stared into the mocking, cruel eyes of his greatest enemy.
“What second vehicle?” Alessandro demanded, his voice dropping to a lethal, terrifying whisper.
Don Falcone chuckled darkly, deeply enjoying the immense pain he was causing the powerful Moretti boss.
“The official police report was a complete lie bought and paid for by my syndicate, Alessandro,” Falcone boasted.
He revealed that his men had intentionally run Isabella’s sedan off the treacherous coastal road that rainy afternoon.
It was entirely a calculated, brutal assassination designed to emotionally break Alessandro and weaken his empire.
Falcone proudly admitted that the Carter widow’s husband, Daniel, had actually witnessed the crash while working on a nearby bridge.
That was exactly why Silvio had ordered Daniel’s execution—to completely silence the only witness to the Falcone hit.
Alessandro felt the entire world violently spin out of control around him.
The tragic accident that destroyed his life was actually a cold-blooded, calculated murder orchestrated by the man on the screen.
And the innocent widow scrubbing his floors was completely tied to the very center of this massive conspiracy.
“Why are you telling me this now, Falcone?” Alessandro asked, desperately fighting to keep his voice steady.
“Because I want you to know exactly who holds all the power in this city,” Falcone sneered.
“Hand over the lucrative shipping contracts by midnight tomorrow, or I will finish the job and kill the Carter widow too.”
The video call abruptly ended, leaving Alessandro entirely alone in the suffocating silence of his study.
He stood up so violently that his heavy leather chair crashed backward onto the floor.
He swept everything off his massive mahogany desk in a blind, unadulterated fit of absolute rage.
The crystal bourbon decanter shattered against the wall, perfectly mirroring his broken, devastated soul.
He had spent three years grieving an accident, entirely blind to the treacherous war raging around him.
Victor rushed into the study, his weapon drawn, reacting instantly to the sound of breaking glass.
He stopped completely in his tracks when he saw his usually composed boss breathing heavily amidst the destruction.
“Assemble all the captains immediately,” Alessandro ordered, his eyes burning with an intense, murderous fire.
“We are going to war tonight.”
Victor nodded firmly and quickly left the room to execute the aggressive command.
Alessandro walked slowly over to the shattered remains on his desk and picked up the framed photograph of Isabella and Arya.
He gently brushed a piece of broken glass off his daughter’s smiling face.
He swore a silent, unbreakable oath to completely destroy every single person involved in their murder.
He walked out of the study and headed straight toward the guest house to check on Sophia and Emma.
He needed to ensure they were absolutely safe before unleashing hell upon the city.
He found Sophia sitting quietly on the porch, reading a worn bedtime story to a sleepy Emma.
Alessandro stopped in the shadows, entirely captivated by the peaceful, beautiful domestic scene.
Emma suddenly looked up and pointed a small finger directly into the dark bushes behind Alessandro.
“Mama, look!” Emma cried out happily. “The pretty lady from the garden is back!”

Alessandro spun around instantly, drawing his heavy weapon with lightning speed.
Standing in the moonlight, looking exactly as she did three years ago, was his supposedly dead wife, Isabella.
