Chapter 1 - The Disappearing Act

Rachel transformed the chaotic office into a pristine workspace within three hours.

She filed the scattered receipts, organized the dusty folders, and finally unearthed the surface of the wooden desk.

Daniel watched her through the glass window, completely mesmerized by her fierce efficiency.

He had expected her to quit after seeing the disastrous state of his accounting books.

Instead, she tackled the mountain of paperwork with a cold and calculated precision.

When the clock on the wall struck exactly noon, Rachel stood up and grabbed her purse.

She did not say a single word as she walked straight out the front door into the bustling street.

Daniel wiped a smudge of grease from his forehead and watched her walk away.

His curiosity got the better of him, pushing him to step outside and follow her from a distance.

He expected her to visit a nearby cafe or grab a quick sandwich from the corner deli.

Rachel bypassed all the restaurants and ducked into a dark, abandoned alleyway behind a closed bank.

Daniel held his breath as he peeked around the brick corner.

A sleek black vehicle with heavily tinted windows was idling quietly in the shadows.

Rachel approached the passenger side and handed a thick envelope to the driver.

The window rolled down just enough for a massive, tattooed arm to snatch the package away.

Daniel felt a cold shiver run down his spine as he recognized a notorious gang symbol on the man's wrist.

Before Daniel could process what he was seeing, a heavy hand firmly grabbed his shoulder from behind.
