Chapter 7 - The Betrayal

Dominic’s wild eyes darted around the room until they landed on me.
He let out a ragged breath of relief and lowered his weapon.
"The perimeter is secure," Dominic announced, stepping into the room.
Isabella rushed toward him, completely dropping her hostile demeanor.
"Oh, my brave son," she cried, reaching out to touch his face.
Dominic caught her wrist before she could make contact.
With a swift, brutal motion, he twisted her arm and pulled the silver revolver from behind her back.
Isabella gasped in shock as Dominic tossed her weapon onto the floor.
"Did you really think I didn't have cameras in my own panic room, Mother?" Dominic asked softly.
The color drained entirely from Isabella's face.
"Dominic, listen to me," she pleaded, taking a step back.
"You ordered a hit on my wife," he said, his voice terrifyingly calm.
"She is a Vance!" Isabella screamed, abandoning her sweet facade completely.
"Her father killed your uncle, and her bloodline will destroy our family!"
I leaned against the wall, my head spinning from blood loss and confusion.
My last name was Vance, but my father was an accountant who died in a car crash.
Dominic looked at his mother with absolute disgust.
"Pack your bags, Isabella," he ordered.
"You are banishing me?" she asked, her voice trembling with outrage.
"If you are still on this property in one hour, I will let Enzo handle you," Dominic threatened.
Isabella spat on the floor at his feet and stormed out of the vault.
Dominic turned to me, his broad shoulders slumping slightly.
"I am so sorry, Clara," he whispered, reaching out to support my waist.
I flinched away from his touch, terrified of the violent world he commanded.
Before he could apologize again, the cell phone in Dominic's pocket began to ring.
He pulled it out and answered it on speakerphone.
"Rossi," Dominic barked.
"Your guards fought well tonight, Dominic," Victor Costa's raspy voice echoed through the speaker.
"But I didn't call to speak to you."
May you like
Costa paused, and I could hear the cruel smile in his voice.
"Put the Vance heiress on the phone."
