Chapter 3 - The Abandoned Warehouse

"Sarah," Martin choked out, dropping the phone onto the damp pavement.
He had not spoken to his daughter in nearly three years after a bitter argument tore them apart.
She was a brilliant investigative journalist who never knew when to walk away from a dangerous story.
"Where did they take her?" Martin pleaded, grabbing the lapels of Daniel's ruined suit jacket.
Daniel picked up the phone and rapidly typed in a sequence of codes.
"The phone has a hidden GPS tracker meant for their extraction team," Daniel explained calmly.
"I can ping the destination coordinates if they haven't disabled the secondary network."
Seconds later, a map loaded on the cracked screen, showing a red dot at the industrial shipping docks.
Daniel pulled a sleek black pistol from a shoulder holster hidden beneath his jacket.
"My car is parked two blocks away, we need to move fast," Daniel ordered.
They sprinted through the dark, rain-slicked streets until they reached a black armored sedan.
Daniel drove with reckless precision, tearing through red lights and weaving through midnight traffic.
Martin clutched the dashboard, his mind racing with terrifying thoughts of what they were doing to Sarah.
Twenty minutes later, they pulled up to a massive, rusted warehouse sitting on the edge of the murky harbor.
The area was completely silent, except for the crashing of waves against the concrete pylons.
"Stay behind me and do exactly as I say," Daniel whispered as they approached a side door.
Daniel picked the heavy industrial lock in less than ten seconds.
They slipped inside, hiding behind towering stacks of wooden shipping crates.
In the center of the warehouse, a single overhead light illuminated a folding metal chair.
Sarah was tied to it, struggling against thick nylon ropes, her face bruised and her lip bleeding.
Three men with the same serpent tattoos stood around her, holding assault rifles.
"I am going to draw their fire," Daniel whispered, handing Martin a small combat knife.
"When they turn toward me, you run to her and cut those ropes."
Before Martin could argue, Daniel stepped out from the shadows and fired three rapid shots.
The overhead lights shattered, plunging the massive room into near absolute darkness.
Gunfire erupted as the men blindly fired toward Daniel's last known position.
Martin sprinted across the concrete floor, his lungs burning as he slid into the center ring.
He reached Sarah and frantically began sawing at the thick ropes binding her wrists.
"Dad?" Sarah gasped, her eyes wide with disbelief and terror.
"I've got you, sweetheart, I've got you," Martin promised, finally cutting through the last knot.
The gunfire suddenly stopped, replaced by the heavy thuds of bodies hitting the floor.
The emergency backup lights flickered on, casting a dim red glow over the warehouse.
Daniel stood over the three dead men, reloading his pistol with chilling calmness.
Martin hugged his daughter tightly, tears of relief streaming down his wrinkled face.
"Thank God you're safe," Martin whispered.
Sarah pushed her father away suddenly, her eyes locked on Daniel with absolute horror.
She backed up against the metal chair, her hands shaking violently.
"Dad, get away from him," Sarah screamed, pointing a trembling finger at Daniel.
Martin turned around, completely confused by her reaction.
"Sarah, it's okay, Daniel just saved our lives."

Sarah shook her head frantically, her voice cracking with raw panic.
"He didn't save us, Dad, he's the one who kidnapped me!"
