The family court hearing was a media circus. Marcus sat smugly beside his lawyer, wearing a cheap suit, ready to demand ten million dollars to walk away from his "beloved niece."
But Julian Vance had not spent the last week doing nothing. He didn't pay the ransom. He used his billions to dig up every skeleton in Marcus’s closet.
When it was Julian’s turn to speak, he didn't put his lawyers forward. He stood up himself, holding a thick leather binder.
"Your Honor," Julian said, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "The man sitting across from me is not a father figure. He is an extortionist."

Julian dropped the files on the judge’s desk. Surveillance photos, offshore bank records, and wiretapped recordings of Marcus bragging about how he was going to bleed the billionaire dry. "Furthermore, my team has uncovered evidence of Marcus's involvement in an interstate fraud ring. The FBI is waiting in the hallway."
Marcus’s smug smile vanished. He tried to run, but two bailiffs tackled him before he even reached the oak doors.
