Chapter 5 - THE EXTORTION
Julian's legal team was frantic. "He's her blood relative, Julian. If he proves he has a stable income, the state will favor biological reunification. Unless you pay him off."
Julian refused to let his new daughter be treated like a ransom hostage, but the situation escalated terrifyingly fast.
One afternoon, Maya was playing in the park under the watchful eye of Julian’s security detail. Suddenly, Marcus slipped through the crowd. He grabbed Maya’s arm roughly, whispering into her ear.

"Listen to me, you little brat," Marcus hissed. "If you don't tell the judge you want to come live with me, I know where that rich kid Leo sleeps. I'll make sure he never laughs again."
By the time the bodyguards tackled Marcus to the ground, the damage was done. Maya was hyperventilating, her eyes wide with absolute terror. She knew what monsters like Marcus were capable of. She looked at Leo, who was crying, and made a devastating decision. To protect her new family, she had to leave them.
