Chapter 2 - The Setup

I stared at the police officer in absolute disbelief.
My hands were instantly forced behind my back.
The cold metal handcuffs clicked tightly around my wrists.
My mother screamed and tried to step between us.
Another officer gently but firmly pushed her away from me.
Vanessa suddenly collapsed to the floor and began sobbing hysterically.
"Thank God you are here," she cried out to the police.
She pointed a trembling finger directly at my face.
"He has been putting antifreeze in Noah's food for weeks."
I struggled against the officers, screaming that she was lying.
"Look at the video on the phone!" I shouted desperately.
The lead officer picked up Noah's phone from the carpet.
He tapped the screen, but his expression remained completely blank.
"The phone is completely wiped to factory settings," the officer said.
My heart dropped into my stomach.
Vanessa must have installed a remote wipe application on his device weeks ago.
Noah clung to my mother's leg, crying uncontrollably.
"Daddy didn't do it!" my brave little boy yelled.
The police ignored him entirely, dragging me out the front door.
They shoved me into the back of a freezing patrol car.
I watched my house fade into the distance as the siren wailed.
They booked me into the county jail and threw me into a dark holding cell.
Hours passed in terrifying, agonizing silence.
Finally, a guard unlocked the heavy steel door.
"Your lawyer is here to see you," the guard announced.
I walked into the drab interrogation room.
A man in a sharp custom suit turned around to face me.
May you like
My blood ran completely cold.
It was the exact same man from Vanessa's bedroom video.
