Chapter 6 - The Federal Sting

We did not stop running until our lungs burned and the sprawling hunting lodge was completely lost in the dark distance.

Audrey was sobbing uncontrollably, utterly devastated by the horrific realization that her own mother had actively tried to lure her to her death.

"She chose him over me again, Liam," Audrey cried, collapsing heavily against the trunk of a massive oak tree.

I pulled her into a tight embrace, promising her that we would permanently sever that toxic bloodline tonight.

I checked my secure watch and realized we had less than an hour before the automated dead-man's switch released the cartel files to the entire world.

While releasing the files would destroy Ethan, it would also make Audrey a permanent target for an incredibly violent international cartel.

We needed to execute a precise, surgical takedown using federal authorities before the cartel ever realized their money was compromised.

We finally reached my damaged sedan and drove straight to a small, rural hospital located two counties over.

I registered Audrey under a secure federal alias, ensuring she was completely safe in a highly guarded, private recovery room.

As I paced the sterile hospital hallway, the elevator doors chimed and slid open.

Sophia stepped out, wearing a sharp trench coat and flanked by four heavily armed, elite tactical federal agents.

"I received your encrypted transmission," Sophia said, her expression grim and entirely professional.

"We have a fully authorized federal sting operation ready to completely freeze his offshore accounts the moment he tries to move the money."

I led Sophia into a secure, vacant doctor's office, pulling out the encrypted laptop to initiate the massive financial hack.

"Ethan knows the walls are closing in, so he is going to try and wire the cartel money to a ghost account in the Caymans," I explained rapidly.

I connected to the secure hospital network and launched the aggressive tracing algorithm I had built specifically for this moment.

We watched the glowing screen intently as the progress bar slowly ticked upward, intercepting Ethan's frantic, desperate digital transfers.

"We have eighty percent of the massive funds completely frozen and heavily locked in a federal holding account," Sophia announced, her eyes locked on the data.

The progress bar hit ninety percent, and I could practically feel the corrupt construction empire crumbling to absolute dust.

"Just a few more seconds, and he will have absolutely nothing left to pay his corrupt cops or his violent mercenaries," I said, a rare smile crossing my face.

The progress bar hit ninety-nine percent, hovering tantalizingly close to absolute, total victory.

Suddenly, I felt the cold, unmistakable press of a metal barrel against the back of my neck.

I slowly turned my head and stared in absolute, paralyzing disbelief.

Sophia, my trusted mentor and former supervisor, had drawn her federal service weapon and was pointing it directly at my head.

"Cancel the upload right now, Liam," Sophia commanded, her voice trembling slightly but entirely lethal.
