Chapter 5 - The Corrupt Manager
The manager kicked the barricade aside with ease.
His name tag identified him as Marcus.
I begged him to help us call the police.
Marcus simply laughed and aimed his gun directly at my chest.
He demanded that I hand over the life insurance documents from the briefcase.
I realized in a flash of horror that Marcus was also on Eric's payroll.
Marcus admitted he was supposed to facilitate my tragic accident at the venue tonight.
He said he wanted a larger cut of the five million dollars to keep his mouth shut.
I held the documents tightly against my chest.
I told Marcus I would personally pay him ten million dollars if he let me walk out of here alive.
I lied and said my father had a secret trust fund waiting for me.
Greed flashed instantly in the manager's dark eyes.
He slowly lowered his weapon and asked how I could guarantee the payment.
I told him we just needed to get to a secure bank tomorrow morning.
Marcus actually considered the offer for a long moment.
He nodded slowly and told us to follow him to the service elevator.
He turned his back toward the shattered doorway to lead the way.
Eric suddenly stepped through the broken door frame.
He did not say a single word to the manager.
Eric raised a pistol and shot Marcus squarely in the back.
