Chapter 3 - The Dark Confession

The world completely stopped spinning as I stared at the gun pressed against my child’s head.
“Let her go right now, Isabella, or I will end your entire bloodline,” I stated with deadly calm.
Isabella laughed, the sound cutting through the howling winter wind like a jagged knife.
“You actually thought you could marry me while keeping your little peasant family hidden?” she mocked.
“My father found out about the maid and the bastard child yesterday.”
I kept my gun aimed squarely at her chest, calculating the exact wind speed and distance.
“Where is Sophia?” I demanded, taking a very slow, deliberate step forward.
“She is currently taking a ride with my father’s best men, and she will not survive the night,” Isabella sneered.
Before she could pull the trigger on Lily, a deafening gunshot echoed from the balcony above us.
The silver pistol flew out of Isabella's hand as a high-caliber sniper bullet shattered her wrist.
She screamed in absolute agony, collapsing into the snow and releasing her grip on Lily.
I sprinted forward, scooping my weeping daughter into my arms and shielding her with my body.
I looked up at the balcony, expecting to see one of my loyal snipers providing cover fire.
Instead, I saw my mother, Victoria Moretti, holding a massive, smoking hunting rifle.
She quickly descended the outdoor staircase and marched over to the bleeding, crying Isabella.
“I paid Sophia to leave four years ago specifically to protect her from your psychotic family,” Victoria revealed coldly.
My mother looked at me, her eyes filled with a desperate, terrifying urgency.
“I orchestrated this entire engagement to keep the Vitales distracted while I tried to smuggle Sophia out of the country.”

My mother reached into her designer coat and pulled out a blinking electronic detonator.
“But Carlo Vitale found out, and he just armed three massive bombs inside our mansion.”
