Chapter 10 - The New Empire

The blood completely froze in my veins as Isabella’s cruel voice echoed through the phone speaker.

“If you harm my daughter or my mother, I will slowly tear you apart,” I promised with absolute, deadly conviction.

I hung up the phone and pushed my black SUV to speeds well over one hundred miles per hour down the snowy highway.

Sophia sat in the passenger seat, gripping her pistol so tightly her knuckles were entirely white.

We reached the Manhattan safehouse in record time, entirely bypassing the usual security protocols.

I kicked the heavy oak doors open, rushing directly into the massive, elegantly furnished living room.

Isabella was standing there with her arm heavily bandaged, holding a gun directly at my mother’s head.

Lily was safely hidden behind my mother, crying softly into her grandmother's designer coat.

Isabella turned her weapon toward me, but she was severely weakened by immense blood loss and terrible pain.

Before Isabella could even pull the trigger, Sophia raised her own weapon and fired a single, flawless shot.

The bullet struck Isabella squarely in the chest, dropping the psychotic woman permanently to the hardwood floor.

I rushed forward and scooped Lily into my arms, hugging her so tightly she squeaked with joy.

My mother embraced Sophia warmly, apologizing profusely through real tears for ever forcing her to leave.

The core conflict that had torn our family apart was finally, completely, and permanently resolved.

Over the next few months, I successfully consolidated all the remaining mafia territories under my absolute, peaceful control.

I officially married Sophia in a beautiful, highly secure private ceremony on a secluded island in Italy.

We were finally a real, incredibly happy family, completely free from the violent shadows of our past.

Life was absolutely perfect, and the terrifying nightmare of the Vitale syndicate was completely behind us.

One evening, a heavy, unmarked wooden crate was delivered directly to my private office desk by an unknown courier.

I pried the wooden lid open, discovering a pristine, incredibly detailed ledger of my mother's private finances from five years ago.

The documents proved unequivocally that my mother had not acted alone when she forced Sophia into hiding.

The final page contained a massive wire transfer receipt signed by the highest-ranking federal judge in New York City, accompanied by a note.

"Your mother was simply following my orders, Dominic, and now it is time for you to pay your family's massive debt to me."
