Chapter 8 - The Cartel's Arrival

The deafening roar of the helicopter blades made it completely impossible to hear anything else.

Dozens of heavily armed cartel mercenaries poured out of the chopper, instantly surrounding us on all sides.

A towering man wearing an expensive white suit stepped out of the aircraft with absolute authority.

It was Alejandro, the ruthless cartel boss who desperately needed my grandson's rare blood to survive.

"You have fought very bravely, old man, but this is the end of the road," Alejandro declared smoothly.

He gestured aggressively for his heavily armed men to step forward and take the child.

I pulled my handgun and aimed it directly at Alejandro's chest, fully prepared to die fighting.

"If you want this boy, you are going to have to kill me first," I shouted fiercely over the wind.

Alejandro laughed softly and casually snapped his fingers in the freezing air.

Two mercenaries dragged a brutally beaten, heavily bleeding man out from the back of the helicopter.

It was my dear friend Thomas, barely conscious but still stubbornly clinging to life.

"Drop the weapon right now, Arthur, or I will execute your loyal friend," Alejandro threatened with a cold smile.

I looked at Thomas, whose swollen eyes pleaded with me not to surrender the boy.

I slowly lowered my weapon and let it drop heavily onto the snow-covered pavement.

Two mercenaries aggressively grabbed my arms, forcefully forcing me to my knees in the freezing snow.

Alejandro walked slowly toward Ethan, reaching out a pale, sickly hand to grab the terrified boy.

Ethan clung desperately to my coat, sobbing uncontrollably as the monster approached him.

I realized I had absolutely no physical weapons left to fight this impossible battle.

But I still had the encrypted flash drive I had taken from the cemetery hidden deep in my pocket.

"Take one more step, and the FBI gets your entire financial ledger," I yelled, pulling out the small black drive.
