Chapter 9 - The Final Move

The disguised caterers were actually Alexander's elite, undercover tactical squad, perfectly positioned for absolute worst-case scenarios.

Without a single moment of hesitation, the undercover agents opened fire on the cartel enforcers.

The suppressed weapons made a deadly, quiet thumping sound as they ruthlessly neutralized the immediate threats.

The lead enforcer holding Valeria was struck squarely in the shoulder, dropping his heavy combat knife in pure agony.

Valeria frantically scrambled away from him, crawling frantically toward the safety of the kitchen doors.

Alexander pulled me up from the marble floor, guiding me swiftly behind a massive, solid marble pillar for protective cover.

The remaining cartel members fiercely returned fire, completely destroying the extravagant decorations and shattering the expensive chandeliers.

The beautiful anniversary party had officially become a deadly, terrifying warzone.

Diego was still lying helplessly on the floor, desperately trying to roll away from the chaotic crossfire.

"This is exactly what you get for playing games with the devil," I shouted at Diego over the deafening sound of gunfire.

"You thought you were a king, but you were always just a pathetic pawn."

The intense firefight lasted for exactly three terrifying minutes.

Alexander's elite agents moved with lethal, terrifying precision, systematically dismantling the disorganized cartel attackers.

Soon, the only sound left in the ruined ballroom was the groans of the wounded criminals and the sobbing of my terrified family.

The undercover agents quickly secured the remaining hostiles, zip-tying their wrists and kicking their dangerous weapons away.

Alexander stepped out from behind the pillar, aggressively adjusting the cuffs of his expensive, smoke-stained suit.

"Is the entire building completely secure?" Alexander calmly asked his tactical team leader.

"Yes, Boss, all immediate threats have been entirely neutralized," the agent confirmed with a sharp nod.

I walked slowly out of the shadows, my simple blue dress completely covered in gray dust and tiny glass shards.

I looked down at Diego, who was weeping uncontrollably like a terrified child.

The local police reinforcements finally arrived, their heavy boots thundering into the destroyed banquet hall.

They quickly took custody of the wounded cartel members and violently hauled the pathetic Diego back to his feet.

This time, there was absolutely no magical escape plan for the man who had ruined my heart.

He would spend the rest of his miserable life rotting in a maximum-security federal prison cell.

I turned around to find Valeria sitting on the floor, her glamorous facade entirely shattered into a million unfixable pieces.

She looked exactly like the broken, helpless woman she truly was without her stolen wealth to protect her.

I slowly walked toward the exit, ready to leave this toxic family completely behind me forever.

But before I could step through the shattered doors, one of the police detectives rushed over to me with a grim expression.
