Chapter 5 - The Bankrupt King

The sight of the deadly weapon sent a massive wave of panic through the remaining guests.
My mother fainted directly into my father's arms, overwhelmed by the sudden violence invading her anniversary party.
Alexander instantly stepped in front of me, his hand hovering dangerously close to his own concealed weapon.
"Put the gun down, Diego," Alexander ordered, his voice echoing with lethal authority.
"You are a terrible businessman, do not become a dead one."
Diego's hands shook violently as he aimed the silver pistol directly at Alexander's chest.
"If I kill you right now, the debt dies with you," Diego rationalized with the manic desperation of a cornered animal.
I stepped out from behind Alexander, completely ignoring the deadly weapon pointed in our direction.
"You really are a complete idiot, Diego," I said, my voice filled with pure, unadulterated disgust.
"Alexander is not the one who holds the legal deeds to your fraudulent companies."
I tapped my own chest lightly.
"I hold the deeds, and my legal trust dictates that if I die, all of your evidence immediately goes to the federal authorities."
Diego froze, realizing that pulling the trigger would simply guarantee his own permanent destruction.
He had spent his entire life manipulating women, but he had finally met one he could not control.
Valeria stood perfectly still, her tear-stained face suddenly hardening into an expression of pure, selfish survival.
She slowly backed away from Diego, creating a physical distance between herself and the sinking ship.
"I had absolutely nothing to do with his illegal businesses," Valeria shouted at Alexander, throwing her husband completely under the bus.
"I just wanted a luxurious life, I did not know he was laundering mafia money."
Diego lowered his pistol slightly, staring at his wife with absolute shock and bitter resentment.
"You ungrateful parasite," Diego spat furiously.
"You happily spent millions of dollars on designer clothes while I risked my life dealing with cartels to keep you satisfied."
The perfect, glamorous couple was finally tearing each other apart right in front of my eyes.
It was exactly the poetic justice I had waited a decade to witness.
"Lucía, please," Valeria begged, turning toward me with fake tears streaming down her flawless cheeks.
"We are sisters, you cannot let them throw me out onto the street with nothing."
I looked at the woman who had intentionally destroyed my heart and stolen my future with a cruel smirk.
"Are you still alone, Valeria?" I mocked, throwing her exact opening insult right back into her face.
Valeria opened her mouth to argue, but the sound of heavy police sirens suddenly wailed in the distance.

Diego panicked, realizing the flashing red and blue lights were quickly approaching the banquet hall.
He grabbed Valeria roughly by the arm and pressed the barrel of his silver pistol directly against her temple.
