Chapter 8 - The Live Broadcast

I stare down the barrel of Daniel's gun, realizing I have trusted all the wrong people.
"You will never get away with this," I say, trying to keep my voice steady.
"I can easily frame your brother for a tragic murder-suicide," Daniel replies flawlessly.
Before he can pull the trigger, the front window of the house explodes inward. Bright spotlights flood the living room, blinding everyone inside. A heavily armored SWAT team breaches the rear kitchen door with a deafening crash.
"Drop the weapon!" a tactical officer screams over a megaphone.
Daniel hesitates, calculating his odds of escaping this nightmare. He slowly lowers the gun and places it carefully on the floor, raising his hands in surrender.
Officers swarm the room, instantly tackling Tyler to the carpet and restraining Mrs. Alvarez.
A woman in a sharp blazer walks confidently through the broken front door. It is a reporter from the national news network that had been aggressively covering my viral TikTok video.
"Emma Whitaker?" the reporter asks, stepping over the broken glass.
"Yes, that is me," I answer, completely bewildered.
"Your viral video didn't just get millions of views on TikTok," she explains. "It caught the attention of an independent cyber-sleuth community who spent the last three hours hacking your father's servers."
The reporter points to the live news cameras waiting outside on the lawn. "They found everything, Emma, and they forwarded it anonymously to the FBI."
I watch in awe as Daniel Pierce is handcuffed and dragged out to a waiting police cruiser. Tyler is sobbing like a child as officers read him his Miranda rights. My parents are already in federal custody, having been raided at our home an hour ago.
The reporter holds out a microphone to me. "The entire country is watching right now, Emma." "What do you have to say to the millions of people who supported your speech?"
May you like
I look straight into the camera lens, finally feeling completely in control of my own destiny.
"I want to say that the truth always finds the light, even when it is buried under decades of lies," I declare.
