Chapter 10 - The Heir

The heavily armed SWAT officers immediately rushed forward, aiming their rifles directly at me.

I did not panic, and I did not lower my hands.

Silas stepped calmly in front of me, reaching slowly inside his tactical vest to pull out a golden badge.

"Stand down, Captain," Silas ordered with absolute, booming authority.

"I am Special Agent Silas Vance with the FBI's organized crime division, and this woman is under my direct protection."

The police captain immediately lowered his weapon, recognizing Silas's federal authority.

Silas handed the manila folder containing the forged documents and the toxicologist report to the captain.

"Arrest Richard and his wife for massive corporate fraud, forgery, and the first-degree murder of Arthur Hale," Silas commanded.

The police aggressively dragged my screaming, crying father out of the snow and placed him in heavy iron handcuffs.

Officers carried a violently cursing Madison out of the mansion, shoving her into the back of a police cruiser next to Ethan.

I stood quietly in the freezing garden, watching the family that had brutally discarded me lose absolutely everything.

They had kicked me out into the cold on Christmas morning, calling me a pathetic loser.

Now, they were heading to federal prison for the rest of their miserable lives.

With the master black card and the biometric ring safely in my possession, I legally seized total control of Hale Holdings the very next day.

I immediately fired the corrupt board members, dismantled the illegal cartel ties, and transformed the syndicate into a legitimate, billion-dollar tech enterprise.

I finally had the immense wealth, absolute power, and total vindication that I truly deserved.

A month later, I sat in my massive new penthouse office overlooking the beautiful, snowy Chicago skyline.

I opened Grandpa Arthur's cedar box to place the leather ledger back inside for safe keeping.

As I pressed the heavy book down, a hidden spring clicked loudly, revealing a secret false bottom beneath the wood.

I pulled out a faded, original birth certificate listing my first name, but the last name was entirely different.

Attached to the certificate was a final, hastily scribbled note from Arthur that made my blood run cold.

"I stole you from them to keep you safe, Claire, but now that you rule Vanguard, your real family is coming to kill you."
