Chapter 4 - The Blackout

I stared at the glowing screen of Chloe's phone, realizing her bruised face was nothing but theatrical makeup.
She had purposefully crashed her own car to manipulate me into opening the gate.
My own sister was acting as a Trojan horse to help our parents steal my home.
I snatched the phone from her hand and stepped backward, absolutely disgusted by the betrayal.
Chloe dropped the fake crying act instantly and smiled a cold, calculating smile that looked exactly like our mother's.
She calmly explained that the men at the back gate were not actually repo men.
They were armed fixers hired by the shady developer to physically remove me from the property by any means necessary.
I turned around to run to the security control panel to lock down the rear perimeter.
Before I could reach the digital keypad, every single light in the house instantly flickered and died.
The hum of the refrigerator stopped, and the security monitors went completely black.
The fixers had found the main electrical box on the edge of the property and severed the heavy power lines.
I pulled out my cell phone to call David, but the screen showed absolute zero signal.
They were using a military-grade cellular jammer to isolate the ranch from the outside world.

I was completely trapped on a dark, sprawling property with a traitor in my living room and armed intruders breaching the fence.
The sound of shattering glass echoed from the back porch as the heavy kitchen window was violently smashed.
