Chapter 1 - The Forged Signature

The sheriff took the heavy property folder from the shaking hands of the realtor.

He flipped through the glossy pages and colorful brochures my mother had printed to sell my home.

His expression shifted from mild annoyance to absolute professional severity in a matter of seconds.

My father tried to step forward to snatch the folder back.

The sheriff immediately placed his hand on his duty belt and ordered my father to step back.

My mother started crying, performing the fake, dramatic tears she always used to manipulate family members.

The sheriff completely ignored her performance and pulled a single document from the back of the folder.

He asked the realtor to return to her vehicle and leave the premises immediately.

She practically ran to her car, terrified of being involved in whatever crime she had just stumbled into.

The sheriff looked at my parents and officially trespassed them from my ranch.

He warned them that if they ever stepped foot on my gravel driveway again, they would leave in handcuffs.

My father cursed under his breath, grabbed my mother by the arm, and shoved her toward their luxury SUV.

They drove away in a cloud of dust, leaving the heavy property folder in the hands of law enforcement.

The sheriff walked over to me and handed me the document he had pulled from the back of the stack.

I expected to see a fake contract or a drafted listing agreement.

Instead, I was looking at a legally notarized Power of Attorney.

The document gave my father absolute, unchecked legal control over all of my real estate and financial assets.

My signature was at the bottom, perfectly forged in dark blue ink.

But it was the official notary stamp beside my forged signature that made my blood run completely cold.

The stamp belonged to my own sister.
