Chapter 7 - The Hostage

Madison looked absolutely nothing like the fragile, coddled princess I had known my entire life.
Her hair was a messy knot, her eyes were completely wild, and her hands did not tremble at all as she aimed the weapon.
She smiled a dark, twisted smile that made my blood run completely cold.
She told me she knew I was still alive, and she had been waiting for me to come back.
I raised my hands slowly, trying to keep my voice perfectly steady.
I asked her how she could possibly know I was coming.
Madison laughed, an ugly, grating sound that echoed in the quiet kitchen.
She revealed that she had secretly placed a GPS tracker inside the lining of my favorite blue dress the night I left.
She had tracked my entire journey to Chicago, and she knew exactly where I had been hiding.
I stared at her, horrified by the sheer level of sociopathic calculation.
She had let me run, let the cartel hunt me, and framed our father, all while watching my every move on a screen.
I asked her why she was doing this to her own family.
Madison scoffed, stepping closer and pressing the barrel of the gun against my stomach.
She admitted that she hated me because our father had secretly planned to leave his entire estate to me instead of her.
She wanted the inheritance, she wanted the insurance money, and she wanted me entirely out of the picture.
She ordered me to turn around and walk toward the basement door.
She planned to lock me in the soundproof cellar until my father was convicted, and then she was going to kill me herself.
I took a slow step backward, desperately looking for any possible distraction.
Suddenly, the front window of the living room shattered violently inward.
Silas Vance burst through the broken glass, holding a suppressed tactical pistol.
He did not hesitate for a fraction of a second.
He fired a single shot, striking the handgun perfectly out of Madison's grip.
Madison screamed in pain, clutching her shattered hand as she collapsed to the floor.
I rushed forward and kicked the fallen weapon far out of her reach.
Silas stood over my sister, his eyes burning with absolute, lethal authority.
He told Madison she was going to write a full, handwritten confession to the police right now, clearing my father and admitting to the insurance fraud.
Madison spat blood onto the floor and laughed bitterly.
She told Silas he could kill her if he wanted, but she would never write a confession.
Because if she went to prison, her real father would murder both of us before the week was over.
I froze, completely confused by her arrogant threat.
I told Madison our father was currently sitting in a federal holding cell.
Madison looked up at me, a wicked, triumphant grin spreading across her face.
May you like
She told me Arthur was not her biological father.
Her real father was the head of the Apex cartel, and he had been funding her entire life in secret.
