Chapter 9 - The Federal Raid

Patricia smiled a truly demonic, satisfied smile as she confidently placed her manicured finger on the heavy metal trigger.

She whispered that it was time to finally clean up the mistakes of the past and secure the family's future once and for all.

I screamed a sound that did not even feel human, diving across the small space between the bed and the door.

I threw my own body entirely over my fragile daughter, fully prepared to take the lethal bullet meant to end her life.

A deafening, explosive gunshot rang out in the small hospital room, echoing endlessly off the sterile white walls.

I squeezed my eyes shut, waiting for the burning, agonizing pain to consume my back and end my miserable existence.

But the pain never came, and the heavy hospital room fell completely silent for a fraction of a second.

I slowly opened my eyes and looked up to see Patricia shrieking in pure agony, clutching her violently bleeding right hand.

The pistol lay in pieces on the floor, completely shattered by a perfectly aimed bullet.

I turned toward the doorway to see David standing there, smoke rising slowly from the barrel of his own trembling handgun.

He had followed us to the clinic and shot the weapon completely out of his mother's hand just before she could fire.

Robert struggled to get back on his feet, his jaw completely shattered, realizing his entire empire was finally crumbling around him.

He reached blindly for a surgical scalpel on the fallen tray, preparing to make one last, desperate attack on his own children.

Suddenly, the massive glass windows of the intensive care suite shattered inward in a spectacular shower of broken glass.

Dozens of heavily armed FBI agents, secretly called by Detective Miller during our rainy drive, violently stormed into the room.

They raised their assault rifles, screaming at my parents to drop to the floor immediately or be shot on sight.
