Chapter 7 - The Mastermind

I did not think about the consequences or the danger as I violently kicked the heavy hospital door entirely off its hinges.
I charged across the sterile white room like a wild animal, tackling my mother aggressively away from Lily's bed.
The massive glass syringe flew from her perfectly manicured hands, shattering into hundreds of sharp pieces against the floor tiles.
Patricia hit the ground hard, but instead of panicking, she simply let out a dark, wicked laugh that chilled me to the bone.
She slowly stood up, casually wiping a tiny speck of dust from her expensive designer dress as if nothing had happened.
I stood protectively over my sleeping daughter, screaming at my mother, demanding to know why she would try to murder her own grandchild.
Patricia rolled her eyes, stating that Lily was nothing more than a pathetic, worthless obstacle standing in the way of true legacy.
She calmly explained that my late grandfather had secretly despised Robert's immense greed and financial incompetence.
Before he died, he had quietly legally restructured his massive billion-dollar empire, leaving it entirely in a secret trust for my bloodline alone.
Patricia admitted they needed Lily dead and me locked away in a psychiatric prison so the money would automatically default back to Robert.
They had orchestrated the entire horrific beating at the birthday party specifically to provoke me into an arrestable reaction.
I was completely disgusted by the terrifying, unimaginable greed that had completely destroyed any shred of humanity in my family.
I told her that her plan was completely ruined, because I had the audio recording that would send her to federal prison forever.
Patricia simply smiled, looking past my shoulder with a look of absolute, terrifying confidence.
The door to the private bathroom suddenly swung open, squeaking slightly in the quiet room.

My father, Robert, stepped out of the shadows holding a heavy, black pistol fitted with a long metal suppressor.
Before I could even react, he raised the weapon and instantly shot Detective Miller in the shoulder as the cop rushed into the room.
