Chapter 1 - The Arrest

The flashing red and blue lights of the ambulance painted my parents' pristine white hallway in violent, chaotic strokes.

Paramedics rushed through the grand double doors, pushing past my father and his wealthy guests without a single ounce of hesitation.

My heart shattered into a million jagged pieces as I watched them carefully lift my fragile, six-year-old daughter onto a cold metal stretcher.

Lily looked so incredibly small, her favorite yellow unicorn dress now ruined and stained with her own innocent blood.

I tried to follow the medics out the door, desperate to hold her tiny hand, but a heavy grip clamped down hard on my shoulder.

I turned around to see Chief Inspector Higgins, a corrupt man who regularly played golf at my father's exclusive country club.

I pointed a trembling finger directly at my parents, who were casually sipping expensive champagne in the corner of the lavish room.

I screamed at the top of my lungs that they had viciously beaten my sleeping child just because they despised our lack of wealth.

My father, Robert, calmly stepped forward and adjusted his designer silk tie with a sickening look of feigned tragedy on his face.

He looked the inspector right in the eye and stated that I had always been an unstable, violent mother who was desperate for financial attention.

My mother, Patricia, produced a perfectly timed fake tear, claiming they had desperately tried to stop me from hurting the poor girl.

I stared at the two monsters who raised me in absolute horror, completely unable to comprehend the terrifying depth of their lies.

I turned to my brother David and the rest of the family, begging them to tell the police what they had actually heard in the kitchen.

Every single one of them silently looked down at their expensive leather shoes, choosing their comfortable inheritances over a little girl's life.

Inspector Higgins did not even bother asking for my side of the story before pulling a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his utility belt.

He violently twisted my arms behind my back, the cold metal biting deeply into my wrists as the lock clicked shut.

I kicked and thrashed against his grip, screaming Lily's name as two large officers dragged me out of my own childhood home.

They aggressively threw me against the side of a waiting police cruiser, pressing my bruised cheek into the freezing metal door.

The guests watched from the illuminated porch, their faces entirely devoid of any human empathy or basic compassion.

My mother slowly walked down the front steps, her designer high heels clicking menacingly on the pristine concrete driveway.

She signaled the officers to give her a moment with me, and they obediently stepped back like well-paid servants.

She leaned in close to my ear, her breath smelling strongly of expensive alcohol and pure, unadulterated malice.

She whispered that I should say a quiet prayer in my jail cell tonight.

She promised me that by the time the sun came up, my worthless daughter would finally be dead.
