Chapter 9 - The Sky On Fire

I quickly pulled a heavy emergency fire axe from a shattered glass case on the wall.

I swung the heavy red blade violently against the thick electronic keypad.

Bright sparks flew everywhere in the smoke, but the thick door remained stubbornly locked.

I aggressively changed my target and aimed fiercely at the exposed metal hinges.

I brought the heavy axe down repeatedly with every single ounce of strength I had left.

The thick metal slowly began to bend, splinter, and finally give way.

Grace stood up bravely and helped me pry the heavy steel door entirely open.

We forcefully pushed the heavy metal wide enough for both of us to squeeze through.

We burst out desperately onto the freezing, rain-slicked concrete of the roof.

The freezing, violent wind whipped my wet hair painfully across my face.

A massive, sleek black helicopter was already lifting slightly off the painted concrete pad.

I saw my mother sitting comfortably and securely in the leather passenger seat.

She was holding my tiny, helpless son tightly against her expensive coat.

She looked down at me through the glass with a triumphant, truly evil smile.

The powerful helicopter began to ascend higher into the dark, stormy night sky.

I screamed in absolute, unfiltered fury and broke into a full, desperate sprint.

My heavy combat boots slipped dangerously on the slick, wet concrete surface.

I completely ignored the perilous, fatal edge of the roof dropping off into absolute nothingness.

I leaped desperately and wildly into the freezing, turbulent air.

My calloused hands slammed hard against the freezing cold metal of the landing skid.

My fingers gripped the slippery bar fiercely just as the chopper surged powerfully upward.

I dangled completely helplessly hundreds of feet above the dark, treacherous mountain forest.

The violent, icy wind threatened to tear me away completely at any given moment.

I looked up frantically through the clear glass floor of the ascending cabin.

My mother calmly pulled a small handgun from her designer purse and pointed it directly at my face.

The helicopter tilted dangerously as the pilot actively fought the severe mountain storm.

My strained arms burned with intense, screaming agony as I held on desperately for my life.

She smiled wickedly and slowly placed her finger heavily on the trigger.
