Chapter 4 - The Midnight Port

I crawled blindly through the freezing mud for a grueling, agonizing mile.
I eventually reached a deserted gas station on the desolate edge of the industrial town.
An old, rusty motorcycle was parked carelessly near the broken fuel pumps.
I used my tactical pocket knife to quickly hotwire the engine.
The heavy bike roared to life loudly beneath me.
I sped aggressively toward the towering cranes of the industrial shipping district.
I knew my mother exclusively controlled all the illegal smuggling operations at Pier 44.
I completely bypassed the main security gate by driving violently through a broken chain link fence.
The massive steel shipping warehouse was actively guarded by heavily armed mercenaries.
I slipped silently and entirely unnoticed through a rusted side ventilation shaft.
I dropped down gracefully onto the damp concrete floor inside the massive facility.
The dark space was completely filled with crates of stolen medical equipment.
A makeshift surgical delivery room had been explicitly set up in the center of the warehouse.
I saw incredibly fresh blood staining the white hospital sheets on the bed.
My heart pounded wildly and painfully against my ribs.
A terrified doctor in a white coat was frantically tossing medical documents into a burning fire barrel.
I sprinted forward silently and tackled him forcefully to the hard ground.
I pressed my heavy forearm tightly against his throat to cut off his air.
I screamed at him to tell me exactly where my wife and baby were.
The cowardly doctor cried hysterically and begged pitifully for his life.
He pointed a violently shaking finger toward a dark, isolated corner of the warehouse.
A state-of-the-art medical incubator sat silently on a cold metal table.
I released the crying doctor and ran desperately toward the machine.
I looked frantically through the clear plastic casing.
The high-tech incubator was completely empty.
A flashing red light caught my immediate, terrifying attention.
I looked slowly underneath the sterile metal table.
A massive block of military-grade explosives was heavily wired to a digital timer.
The glowing red numbers showed exactly ten short seconds left.
May you like
I realized instantly that my mother had left this deadly trap behind just for me.
The timer loudly and mockingly beeped as it dropped to nine seconds.
