Chapter 7 - Blood Of My Blood

I did not waste a single, precious second in hesitation or fear.
I quickly pulled a small remote detonator from my wet jacket pocket.
I had strategically rigged the estate's main power generator with explosives during my silent approach.
I pressed the glowing red button firmly with my thumb.
The entire mountain fortress immediately plunged into absolute, pitch-black darkness.
Loud shouts of panic and complete confusion erupted from the fifty men surrounding me.
I quickly pulled my tactical night vision goggles down securely over my eyes.
The dark, chaotic room illuminated clearly into a bright green landscape.
I moved silently and incredibly swiftly through the panicked, blinded crowd.
I used my heavy combat knife to quietly and efficiently neutralize the closest immediate threats.
I fired my silenced pistol with deadly, unwavering accuracy at the armed guards blocking the exit.
The crucial element of surprise belonged entirely and totally to me.
I slipped swiftly out of the dining room while they were still blindly shooting at empty shadows.
I fought my way rapidly and aggressively up the grand spiral staircase.
More confused guards rushed clumsily down the marble steps to stop my ascent.
I dispatched them efficiently without breaking my stride and stepped over their fallen bodies.
I finally reached the massive, ornate double doors of the master suite.
I knew my vulnerable wife was trapped somewhere behind those heavy wooden panels.
I kicked the doors forcefully open with a massive, unstoppable burst of adrenaline.
The lavish room was dimly lit by a roaring fire in the massive stone fireplace.
I saw Grace sitting quietly in an armchair facing away from the doorway.
I dropped my heavy weapon instantly and rushed across the room toward her.
I called her name softly with warm tears rapidly forming in my eyes.
Grace slowly stood up from the chair and turned around to face me.
Her beautiful face was completely devoid of any recognizable human emotion.
She slowly raised a heavy silver pistol in her right hand.
She aimed the cold metal barrel directly at my beating heart.
She pulled the heavy trigger without a single moment of hesitation.

The loud metallic click of the firing pin echoed terribly in my ringing ears.
I stared in total, heartbreaking shock at the woman I loved more than life itself.
