Chapter 3 - Blood On The Highway

I reacted entirely on primal, unfiltered instinct.
I smashed my elbow violently into Dante's wrist before he could pull the trigger.
The silenced pistol fired a stray bullet wildly through the front windshield.
I grabbed the heavy steering wheel with my left hand.
I yanked it sharply and aggressively to the right side of the road.
The massive SUV swerved dangerously across the empty midnight highway.
Dante threw a brutal, closed-fist punch directly at my jaw.
I tasted fresh copper blood pooling in my mouth.
I ignored the sharp pain and focused entirely on disarming him.
The heavy vehicle violently smashed through the metal guardrail on the edge of the cliff.
We plummeted down a steep, rocky embankment into the total darkness.
The front airbags deployed immediately with a deafening, explosive crash.
The world spun out of control as grinding metal crushed against ancient pine trees.
I dragged my battered and bleeding body out of the shattered passenger window.
Freezing rain began to fall heavily from the dark, unforgiving sky.
I stumbled weakly over to the destroyed driver side of the wrecked vehicle.
Dante was trapped tightly behind the crushed steering column.
He coughed up dark blood as I pointed his own dropped weapon directly at his head.
I demanded to know exactly where my mother had taken my pregnant wife.
Dante laughed bitterly through his intense, agonizing pain.
He confessed slowly that they had taken her to the old smuggling port on the edge of the city.
He revealed with a sick smile that her water had already broken several hours ago.
My heart stopped beating for a terrifying, unbearable second.
I realized my vulnerable child was already coming into this incredibly dangerous world.
I pressed the cold barrel of the gun harder against Dante's sweaty forehead.
I aggressively demanded the exact pier number where the ship was waiting.
Dante slowly opened his bloody mouth to speak.
A high-caliber sniper bullet suddenly shattered the remaining glass of the back window.
The massive shot struck Dante directly in the center of his chest.
His body went completely limp before he could say another single word.
I dove wildly into the muddy ditch as a second heavy bullet hit the metal car frame.

I was entirely alone in the dark forest with no exact location to find my family.
Someone hidden in the distant shadows was actively hunting me down.
