Chapter 3 - The Unholy Alliance

I stared at the notary stamp on the screen until my vision blurred.
My ex-husband, David, had not been a part of my life for three painful years.
Our marriage ended when his gambling addiction drained our savings and destroyed our credit.
He lost custody of Theo and vanished to Florida to escape his bookies.
I had no idea he was even back in New York, let alone conspiring with my sister.
The reality of the situation crashed over me like a tidal wave.
Drew and David hated each other when we were married.
Now they had formed an unholy alliance just to destroy me.
I grabbed my coat and told Theo to put his shoes back on.
We could not stay in the apartment while my enemies knew exactly where I lived.
I drove us to the local police precinct, determined to file a report.
I sat across from a tired-looking detective and explained the entire situation.
I showed him the digital document and pointed out the forged signature.
The detective sighed and leaned back in his creaky leather chair.
He told me that digital fraud cases take months to investigate and prove.
He added that since it was my ex-husband's notary stamp, it looked like a standard domestic financial dispute.
The police were not going to freeze the offshore account or arrest anyone today.
I felt a wave of absolute helplessness wash over my entire body.
I realized I was completely on my own in this fight.
I thanked the detective, gathered my things, and walked out into the cold night air.
I buckled Theo into his car seat and promised him everything was going to be okay.
I got into the driver’s seat and turned the key in the ignition.
The engine sputtered but refused to start.
I tried again, pumping the gas pedal frantically.
That was when I noticed the small, blinking red light under my dashboard.

Someone had wired a GPS tracking device directly into my car's electrical system.
A dark sedan suddenly pulled into the parking lot and blocked my exit.
