Chapter 5 - The Concrete Pour

The betrayal hit me like a physical blow to the chest.
My own lawyer, the man I had trusted to handle my estate planning for the last decade, was secretly helping Vanessa steal my land.
I crumpled the printed email in my fist.
Vanessa laughed and told me that money always talks louder than neighborly courtesy.
I turned around, walked into my house, and immediately called the state bar association to file a severe ethics complaint against my lawyer.
Then I called the most aggressive, ruthless property litigation firm I could find in the city.
The new attorney, a sharp-tongued woman named Sarah, listened to my story for exactly three minutes before taking the case.
She told me that the forged quitclaim deed was highly illegal, but it would take weeks to untangle the mess in court.
We needed to file an emergency stop-work injunction immediately to prevent Vanessa from making any permanent changes to the disputed land.
Sarah drafted the injunction in record time and promised to have a judge sign it by noon.
I just needed to physically hand the legal notice to Vanessa or her site manager to legally halt the construction.
I sat in my car outside the courthouse, waiting for the paperwork to be finalized.
The moment the clerk handed me the stamped document, I sped back toward my neighborhood.
I could feel a sense of victory building in my chest.
I was finally going to stop her dead in her tracks.
I turned onto my street and immediately rolled down my windows.
A loud, mechanical roaring sound echoed through the entire neighborhood.
I slammed on my brakes and sprinted up my driveway.
Three massive cement trucks were parked on Vanessa’s lawn, their heavy chutes extended directly over the property line.
May you like
Thick, heavy concrete was pouring rapidly into the deep trenches her workers had dug.
She was permanently burying the original fence post holes under tons of reinforced concrete, destroying the only physical evidence of my property line.
