Chapter 4 - The Digital Deception

I stared at the tablet in absolute disbelief.
The digital boundary line on the official county map had been redrawn, cutting straight through the middle of my patio.
The surveyor apologized, packed up his expensive equipment, and told me that he could only mark what the county legally authorized.
I realized Vanessa had not just pulled strings with an inspector.
She had somehow manipulated the official property deeds at the county level.
I took the day off from work and drove directly to the county clerk's office in the center of town.
I waited in a sterile room for two hours before a clerk finally pulled my physical property file from the archives.
I flipped through the heavy pages until I found the most recent entry.
There, stamped with an official blue seal, was a quitclaim deed transferring a large portion of my backyard to Vanessa Reed.
The document claimed that I had willingly gifted her the land to resolve a boundary dispute.
At the bottom of the page was my signature, perfectly forged.
My blood boiled as I realized the absolute sheer scale of her arrogance.
She was a real estate agent, which meant she knew exactly how to file these documents and bypass the standard verification checks.
I made copies of everything and drove straight back to my neighborhood.
Vanessa was standing on her half-finished deck, sipping sparkling water and pointing at where she wanted her new outdoor kitchen installed.
I walked right up to the property line and held up the forged quitclaim deed.
I told her I was going to the police to have her arrested for fraud and forgery.
I expected her to panic, or at least try to deny it.
Instead, Vanessa took a slow sip of her water and smiled.
She reached into her designer handbag and pulled out a neatly folded piece of paper.

She handed it across the invisible boundary line without saying a word.
It was an email from my own attorney, advising her on the best legal loophole to claim my land without triggering a judge's review.
