Chapter 6 - The Hostage

Rachel gasped as the cold steel of the scalpel pressed tightly against her skin.
"Nobody move!" Ethan screamed, his polished demeanor replaced by the frantic energy of a madman.
"Open the security doors right now, or I swear I will cut her!"
The two police officers instantly drew their firearms and aimed them at Ethan's head.
"Drop the weapon, son," the taller officer warned in a low, dangerous tone.
"You don't want to add murder to your list of charges today."
Margaret pressed her back against the wall, watching her son hold a doctor hostage.
"Ethan, put it down," Margaret whimpered, suddenly terrified of the monster she had created.
"Shut up, Mom!" he barked, tightening his grip around Rachel's neck.
A thin line of blood appeared where the blade pressed against Rachel's throat.
My vision blurred with tears of pure rage.
I could not let my best friend die because of my revenge plan.
"Let her go, Ethan," I pleaded from the bed, my voice breaking.
"I will give you the passwords to the offshore accounts."
Ethan let out a manic laugh that sent chills down my spine.
"I don't care about the money anymore!" he shouted.
"I just need a car and a clear path out of this building."
Arthur Vance was pressing his body into the corner, sweating profusely.
"You are a fool, Ethan," the former lawyer muttered.
"There is nowhere you can hide from the FBI."
Ethan ignored him and started dragging Rachel slowly toward the heavy steel security doors.
He knew the thirty-minute biohazard lockdown was about to expire.
A loud buzzer echoed through the room, and the heavy metal doors slowly began to slide open.
Freedom was literally inches away for my murderous husband.
He smiled triumphantly and took a step backward into the hallway.
Suddenly, a massive figure stepped into the doorway, completely blocking his escape route.
It was a man wearing a dark tactical vest with the letters FBI printed in bright yellow.
And he was holding a very large, very intimidating shotgun.
"End of the line, Ethan," the federal agent announced coldly.
May you like
But Ethan didn't drop the knife.
Instead, he violently pushed Rachel toward the agent and bolted down the opposite end of the corridor.
