Chapter 4 - The Digital Ghost

The high-definition video played on a continuous loop for everyone to see.
It showed Margaret lifting the heavy cast-iron pot of boiling oil.
It captured the pure malice on her face as she hurled it directly at my chest.
The audio picked up my agonizing screams perfectly.
Then, it showed Ethan calmly stepping over my twitching body to wipe his expensive shoes.
The two police officers stared at the screen in absolute horror.
"That is deepfake technology!" Ethan shouted, his voice cracking with panic.
"She has been using artificial intelligence to frame us!"
Margaret pointed a shaking finger at the screen.
"I was just holding the pot and she ran into me!" she lied desperately.
Arthur Vance quickly stepped between his clients and the officers.
"Officers, you cannot use this illegally obtained footage as evidence," Arthur argued smoothly.
"Furthermore, we do not even know where this video is being broadcast from."
I let out a weak, raspy laugh from the hospital bed.
"It is being broadcast directly from the servers of the Federal Bureau of Investigation," I whispered.
The room fell dead silent.
Ethan's face turned the color of ash.
"What did you just say?" he asked, his hands trembling.
"I am a financial fraud specialist, Ethan," I reminded him coldly.
"Did you really think I didn't know about your offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands?"
I turned my gaze to Arthur Vance.
"And did you think I didn't know Arthur was helping you launder my father's trust fund?"
Arthur swallowed hard, a bead of sweat rolling down his forehead.
I had sent the true financial records to a federal agent three days ago.
The kitchen camera footage was just the final piece of the puzzle I needed.
The taller police officer unclipped his radio.
"Dispatch, we need federal agents at our location immediately," the officer commanded.
Ethan realized his entire empire was crumbling to dust in front of him.
He turned to his mother, his eyes filled with absolute rage.
"This is your fault, you stupid old woman!" Ethan screamed at Margaret.
"If you hadn't thrown that oil, none of this would be happening!"
Margaret stared at her son in disbelief before her expression twisted into pure evil.

"Don't you dare blame me, Ethan," she hissed venomously.
"I was the one who got rid of her father so you could steal the money in the first place."
