I needed to get this evidence to my lawyer and the FBI immediately.
I turned around to leave the office, but the heavy wooden door slammed shut right in front of my face.
Ryan stood in the doorway, blocking my only exit.

He asked me what I thought I was doing snooping around his private property.
I clutched the backpack tightly to my chest and told him I knew everything about the insurance fraud.
Ryan laughed, but it was a nervous, hollow sound that lacked his usual arrogance.
He stepped fully into the room and locked the door behind him with a heavy deadbolt.
He told me I was incredibly naive if I thought anyone would believe a crazy woman over a respected businessman.
I told him I would scream until the neighbors called the police.
He lunged forward and grabbed me violently by the shoulders.
He threw me hard against the wooden desk, knocking the breath completely out of my lungs.
He pulled a black burner phone out of his pocket and dialed a number.
He looked down at me with pure hatred as the line connected.
