Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Verdict

I felt a devastating wave of absolute shock wash over me as Maya took the oath.
Ryan stared at me from across the courtroom with a smug, victorious grin.
He truly believed he had purchased my best friend's loyalty to destroy me in front of the judge.
Ryan's attorney asked Maya to describe my mental state over the past few weeks.
Maya leaned into the microphone and looked directly at the judge.
She stated firmly that my mental state was perfectly sound, but my husband was a dangerous, manipulative abuser.
A loud murmur erupted across the entire courtroom as Ryan's grin completely vanished.
Maya pulled out a hidden audio recorder and played a tape of Ryan offering her fifty thousand dollars to lie on the stand.
The judge slammed his gavel violently, demanding absolute order in his courtroom.
Sarah stepped forward and presented the viral video, the forged medical records, and the multi-million dollar life insurance policies.
The judge reviewed the documents with a look of pure, unadulterated disgust.
He immediately revoked the temporary restraining order and granted me full, permanent custody of Emma.
He then ordered the bailiffs to arrest Ryan and Diane right there in the courtroom for massive insurance fraud and child endangerment.
I watched with tears of absolute joy as they were placed in heavy handcuffs and dragged away to holding cells.
Emma was safely returned to my arms that very afternoon, and we finally began our beautiful, peaceful life away from their toxicity.
Six months later, we were happily settled in a beautiful new house in a completely different state.
Emma was giggling playfully in the backyard while I unpacked the final box in the kitchen.
A sharp knock at the front door interrupted the peaceful afternoon.
I opened the door to find a small, unmarked black package resting on the welcome mat.

Inside was a recent photograph of Emma playing at her brand new, highly secure preschool.
Attached to the photo was a handwritten note from Ryan's estranged, billionaire father that read: "Diane was only following my exact orders, and I always collect what belongs to my bloodline."
