Chapter 6 - The True Mastermind

I stood up from the restaurant table and calmly adjusted the collar of my dark coat.
Volkov remained seated, watching me with a newfound sense of deep respect.
I thanked the mob boss for the tea and walked out the door with Thomas right behind me.
Thomas frantically explained the situation as my private driver sped us toward the police precinct.
Victor had wandered out of the empty mansion and walked miles to his lawyer's downtown office.
He had gone there looking for Vanessa and the money she had stolen from him.
Instead, Victor had opened the office door and found his lawyer dead on the expensive carpet.
The police had stormed the building only seconds later and found Victor kneeling over the bloody body.
My son was currently being booked into county jail on charges of conspiracy and capital murder.
I looked out the tinted window of my car and watched the blurry city lights pass by.
I knew Victor was a spoiled brat and a physical abuser, but he was certainly not a killer.
He lacked the courage and the basic intelligence to pull off a coordinated assassination.
This was a highly professional frame job designed to put my son away for life.
Vanessa needed a convenient scapegoat to take the blame for the missing ten million dollars.
She had manipulated the crime scene perfectly to make Victor look like a desperate, vengeful client.
We arrived at the police station and Thomas immediately requested access to the interrogation room.
The desk sergeant looked at my expensive suit and quickly led us down a bleak concrete hallway.
We stood behind a two-way mirror and looked into the cold, gray interrogation room.
Victor was handcuffed to a metal table, looking small, bruised, and utterly terrified.
He was sobbing uncontrollably and begging the empty room for his mother to save him.
I felt a brief pang of sorrow, but I quickly buried it beneath a solid wall of iron resolve.
The heavy metal door of the interrogation room suddenly clicked open.
A woman wearing a sharp detective's suit and a police badge walked confidently into the room.
May you like
Victor gasped in absolute shock as he looked up at the detective's stern face.
The officer who was about to interrogate my son for murder was his own wife, Vanessa.
