Chapter 9 - The Confession

The heavily armed guards instantly dropped their rifles and surrendered, realizing they were completely outgunned.

I shielded my children's eyes from the flashing strobe lights and carried them safely outside to a waiting ambulance.

Laura arrived moments later, rushing past the police barricade and falling to her knees to embrace our crying kids.

Detective Harris walked over to me, looking both furious and incredibly relieved.

"I told you to wait for us, Jack," he scolded mildly, handing me a warm blanket.

"I am their father, I was never going to just wait," I replied firmly.

"Well, you will be happy to know that we just raided your parents' house simultaneously," the detective announced.

"Did you arrest them?" Laura asked, wiping the tears from Emma's dirty cheeks.

"We arrested your father and your sister, but your mother immediately rolled over and confessed to absolutely everything," Harris explained.

My mother had told the police about the forged deed, the fake death certificate, and the stolen bank funds.

She tried to claim she was completely innocent and manipulated by Melissa, but the police arrested her anyway.

"The syndicate boss is already in federal custody, and the corrupt judge is being indicted as we speak," Harris added.

The entire wicked, toxic empire my family had built to destroy my life had completely collapsed in a single night.

The next morning, Sarah called the bank with the official police reports, and my fifty thousand dollars was instantly restored.

The county clerk completely expunged the fraudulent deed transfer, firmly cementing my absolute ownership of the property.

I legally evicted my parents and my sister while they were sitting in their cold county jail cells.

A week later, a professional moving company packed up all their belongings and placed them in a cheap storage unit.

I decided to completely sell the house they had lived in, wanting absolutely nothing to do with that cursed property ever again.

The closing check was large enough to fully fund my children's college accounts and pay off my own mortgage.

For the first time in my entire life, I felt truly free from the heavy, suffocating chains of my toxic family.
