Chapter 9 - The Final Confrontation

The terrifying news of Jason's violent escape sent a wave of absolute dread through the grand foyer.

Agent Carter cursed loudly and immediately began barking urgent tactical orders into his secure shoulder radio.

I pulled myself up from the marble floor, my strength rapidly returning as the true antidote successfully neutralized the toxin.

I knew exactly where Jason was heading because his massive, fragile ego would never allow him to hide in the shadows.

He was going straight back to Mitchell Medical Technologies to completely destroy the servers containing his criminal evidence.

I told Carter we needed to get to the corporate headquarters immediately before Jason burned the entire building down.

We loaded a screaming Madison into the back of a federal cruiser and sped aggressively toward the downtown financial district.

The massive glass skyscraper was completely dark when we arrived, confirming that Jason had already cut the main power grid.

Carter handed me a heavy tactical flashlight and told me to stay closely behind him as we entered the building.

We crept silently through the massive lobby and took the emergency stairwell all the way up to the executive server floor.

The overwhelming smell of gasoline hit my nose the second we reached the heavy steel doors of the server room.

We pushed the doors open and found Jason frantically pouring fuel all over the massive, humming computer banks.

He struck a match and turned to face us, a look of pure, unhinged, and terrifying madness burning in his eyes.

He saw that I was standing upright and breathing perfectly fine without any signs of the lethal poison.

He realized I had successfully taken the antidote, and his face twisted into an ugly mask of pure, unadulterated hatred.

Jason dropped the lit match onto the soaked floor, instantly igniting a massive, roaring wall of bright orange flames.

He pulled a hidden pistol from his waistband and aimed it directly at the center of my chest.

He screamed that if he couldn't have his medical empire, neither of us would survive to see the morning sun.

Before his finger could even pull the trigger, a loud gunshot echoed through the fiery, smoke-filled room.

May you like

Jason dropped his weapon and fell hard to his knees, a dark red blood stain spreading rapidly across his shoulder.

I turned around and saw Daniel standing in the shadows, holding a smoking gun and wearing a visible federal wire.
