Chapter 6 - The Secret Vault

Daniel calmly locked the heavy steel door behind him and placed the silver briefcase squarely on the metal table.
I stared at my former attorney, my blood boiling with intense hatred for his ultimate, cowardly betrayal.
Agent Carter was supposed to be watching the room through the glass, but the security cameras had mysteriously gone dark.
Daniel popped the latches on the briefcase, revealing a single glass vial filled with a glowing, thick blue liquid.
Jason's eyes widened in genuine, unadulterated shock, clearly unaware that Daniel had acquired his precious antidote.
Daniel looked down at Jason and told him that the balance of power had officially and permanently shifted.
He explained that he and Madison had raided Jason's highly classified private lab moments before the FBI arrived.
Daniel turned his attention to me and offered a cold, entirely businesslike smile.
He said he would give me the life-saving antidote right now if I transferred the offshore millions directly into his personal account.
Jason screamed in pure rage, violently threatening to kill Daniel if he dared to give me the cure.
I realized with absolute clarity that Daniel and Madison had planned to double-cross Jason from the very beginning.
My chest tightened painfully again, a harsh, suffocating reminder that my time was rapidly running out.
I pulled out my phone and accessed the highly encrypted offshore account containing the stolen funds.
I carefully typed in Daniel's routing number, my hands shaking uncontrollably from the intense pain radiating down my arms.
I hit the transfer button and held the phone up to show Daniel the bright green confirmation screen.
Daniel smiled widely, closed his silver briefcase, and handed me the cold blue glass vial.
I immediately uncorked the vial and drank the bitter liquid, praying to God that it would work fast.

Daniel laughed a sinister laugh, picked up his empty briefcase, and walked casually toward the exit.
He paused at the door, looked over his shoulder, and told me that the liquid I just drank was nothing but colored water.
