Chapter 3 - The Shell Game

Christopher was not just a foolish man tricked by my sister's fake pregnancy.
He was an active participant in a massive financial fraud designed to bankrupt me.
I printed out the offshore banking ledgers, the sound of the printer filling the quiet office.
Jacqueline locked the office door behind us, securing the room from my eavesdropping mother and mother-in-law.
"If Christopher owns the shell corporation, he orchestrated the embezzlement," Jacqueline deduced.
"He needed Sabrina’s security clearance in the finance department to bypass your personal trust firewalls."
It was a brilliant, wicked strategy.
They used the divorce and the fake babies as a distraction to blindside me while they stole my inheritance.
"Christopher always hated that the lake property and this house technically belonged to my grandmother's trust," I whispered.
"He knew he could never touch the principal assets in a standard divorce settlement."
So he created a narrative where I was the broken, infertile wife who deserved to be left behind.
He assumed my guilt and shame would keep me from checking the financial logs until it was too late.
"We have enough evidence to call the FBI right now," Jacqueline suggested.
"No," I replied, staring at the printed documents.
"If we call the authorities now, Christopher will just blame Sabrina for the embezzlement."
He would claim he had no idea she was funneling stolen trust money into his corporate accounts.
I needed absolute proof that Christopher had personally authorized the purchase of those children using my money.
I pulled up the security camera feeds for the Meridian Healthcare executive parking lot.
I rewound the footage to the exact timestamp of Sabrina's meeting with Dr. Thorne.
The camera angle was wider than the photograph my private investigator had taken.
I watched as Sabrina handed the cash to the disgraced doctor and took the sleeping twins.
Then, the passenger window of Sabrina's car slowly rolled down on the screen.
Christopher leaned out of the car, shook Dr. Thorne's hand, and smiled warmly at the illegal transaction.
Suddenly, the security footage on my screen buffered and went completely black.

A red warning flashed across my laptop, stating that an external user was actively wiping the Meridian server.
Someone inside the house was deleting the evidence in real time.
