Chapter 2 - The Stolen Millions

I stared at the photograph on my phone, my mind struggling to process the impossible image.
Sabrina had claimed those twins were the product of a year-long secret romance with my husband.
Yet, here was photographic proof that she had purchased them in a parking lot right before dessert.
Jacqueline walked back into the dining room, her expression completely unreadable.
"The courier is on his way to the private facility downtown," she announced.
I silently turned my phone screen toward her so she could see the illegal transaction.
Jacqueline adjusted her glasses, leaning closer to inspect the face of the man receiving the cash.
"That is not just some random black-market adoption broker," she said softly.
"I recognize that man from the Meridian Healthcare corporate security files."
My heart hammered against my ribs as I waited for her to explain.
"That is Dr. Elias Thorne, the disgraced former head of the fertility clinic where you and Christopher were treated," Jacqueline revealed.
The room began to spin as the devastating truth clicked into place.
Christopher had not simply cheated on me with my sister.
Sabrina had paid the exact doctor who knew about Christopher's permanent sterility to procure infants for her grand illusion.
"We need to access Sabrina’s corporate bank accounts right now," I told Jacqueline.
I marched out of the dining room and headed straight to my home office.
I booted up my encrypted laptop and used my executive clearance to bypass the Meridian Healthcare firewall.
Sabrina worked in my finance department, which meant her digital footprint was entirely visible to my master administrator account.
I scanned her recent wire transfers, looking for the massive cash withdrawal she gave to Dr. Thorne.
Instead of a single withdrawal, I found dozens of offshore transfers hidden under fake vendor invoices.
Sabrina had not used her own money to buy those babies.
She had systematically embezzled over four million dollars from my personal grandmother’s trust account.

But the final destination of the stolen money was not Dr. Thorne's bank account.
The ledger clearly showed the millions had been deposited into a shell corporation registered in Christopher's name.
