Chapter 8 - The Empire Crumbles

"Julian Sterling, FBI undercover division," he announced, pulling Ethan up by the collar of his expensive shirt.
Ethan struggled wildly, screaming curses and threats that echoed through the ruined NICU.
"You set me up, this is entrapment!" Ethan bellowed as the heavy steel cuffs clicked around his wrists.
"No, Ethan, your own greed set you up," Julian replied calmly, pushing him toward the waiting officers.
I clutched my tiny daughter to my chest, weeping openly as the nightmare finally began to fracture.
Sarah rushed to my side, throwing a warm blanket over my shivering shoulders.

Eleanor Vance was arrested in the parking lot, her pristine trench coat ruined as she was forced onto the hood of a police cruiser.
Serena was loaded into an ambulance under heavy police guard, facing decades in prison for attempted murder.
The entire corrupt Vance empire was dismantled in a matter of hours on live national television.
I sat in a quiet, secure recovery room, watching the news coverage with a profound sense of peace.
My daughter was finally safe, legally entirely mine, and the monsters who tried to destroy us were locked away.
Caleb walked into the room, holding a beautiful bouquet of yellow roses that matched the nursery I had painted.
"You are going to be a wonderful mother," Caleb smiled, placing the flowers on the bedside table.

I thanked him softly, feeling the exhaustion of the day finally pulling me into a deep, healing sleep.
But just as my eyes closed, the television broadcast cut to a breaking news alert from the county jail.
