Chapter 9 - The Reversal

Ethan's smug expression instantly morphed into a look of absolute, unadulterated terror.
Mark kept his weapon perfectly trained on Ethan's chest while stepping fully into the cabin.
"I survived your pathetic assassination attempt and went directly to the real FBI," Mark revealed loudly.
The flashing lights outside didn't belong to Ethan's corrupt local cops.
They belonged to a massive tactical team of heavily armed federal agents entirely surrounding the property.
Ethan realized his entire criminal empire was violently crumbling down around him in seconds.
In a desperate, panicked move, he grabbed David by the neck and pressed his pistol violently against my brother's temple.
"If anyone takes a single step closer, I will blow his brains out," Ethan screamed hysterically.
I begged him to stop, completely dropping my useless flare gun onto the wooden floorboards.
Suddenly, the back door of the cabin creaked open, and Vanessa slipped inside entirely unnoticed.
She raised her weapon, completely intending to shoot Ethan in the back to claim a generous plea deal for herself.
A chaotic, deafening shootout erupted instantly within the small, confined space of the cabin.
Ethan fired wildly, striking Vanessa squarely in the shoulder and sending her crashing heavily to the floor.
I used the massive distraction to aggressively tackle Ethan around his waist with everything I had.
The pistol flew completely out of his hand, skittering uselessly across the room into the dark corner.
David managed to kick his chair backward, successfully freeing himself from the immediate line of fire.
The front windows shattered as the FBI tactical team swarmed the cabin, completely subduing Ethan in seconds.
Ethan was aggressively handcuffed and dragged away, screaming violently that he would ruin all of us.
A senior FBI agent walked over to me, carefully holstering his heavy weapon.

"We have all the evidence we need from the ledger, Ms. Vance," he said kindly.
"You are completely free."
