Chapter 8 - The Unlikely Ally

Betsy stood in the doorway, trembling slightly but gripping the heavy iron poker with absolute determination.

Connor stared at his own mother in shock, lowering his weapon for just a fraction of a second.

He demanded to know how she had escaped Parker's custody and what she was doing here.

Betsy looked at him with tears in her eyes and declared that she would never support a monster.

She had hated me for years, but she drew the line at threatening the life of her own innocent granddaughter.

She realized that her obsession with a male heir had blinded her to the psychotic nature of her own son.

With a sudden, fierce battle cry, Betsy swung the heavy iron poker directly at Connor's gun hand.

The heavy metal struck his wrist with a sickening crunch, forcing him to drop the silver handgun to the floor.

I did not waste a single second of the incredible opportunity she had just provided.

I kicked the weapon far under the bridal sofa and aggressively shoved Connor backward into a glass table.

I grabbed Brinley and sprinted out of the suite, pulling Betsy along with me into the chaotic hallway.

The sounds of heavy police sirens began to wail loudly from the streets outside the wedding venue.

We ran toward the kitchen exit, desperately trying to avoid the armed mercenaries guarding the main ballroom.

As we turned the final corner, Alyssa stepped out from the shadows, blocking our only path to freedom.

She was holding a small, concealed pistol, and her eyes were wild with desperate, frantic panic.

She aimed the gun directly at my face and told me that she was not going to federal prison for anyone.
