Chapter 3 - The Corporate Breach

I hung up on Vanessa without another word and threw my phone onto the desk.

Eric was not just stealing my home equity to run away.

He was actively targeting my medical manufacturing company.

My firm handled hundreds of millions of dollars in international purchasing contracts every single quarter.

If Eric had my master administrative codes, he could authorize massive wire transfers to anywhere in the world.

I grabbed my car keys and ran out to my garage at five in the morning.

I drove recklessly down the empty Ohio highway, breaking every speed limit to reach my office building.

I swiped my security badge at the front entrance and sprinted up the stairs to the executive floor.

I rushed into my department and logged into the primary accounting mainframe to check the transaction logs.

My hands shook violently as I scanned the list of pending outgoing wire transfers.

There was an unauthorized international wire transfer scheduled to clear at exactly eight in the morning.

Eric had initiated a payment of five million dollars to a ghost corporation registered in the Cayman Islands.

He had perfectly used my digital signature and my personal authorization credentials to approve the massive theft.

I frantically slammed my fingers against the keyboard, desperately trying to cancel the pending transfer.

A bright red error message suddenly flashed across my monitor.

"Access Denied," the screen read.

"Administrative privileges have been permanently revoked by the Chief Executive Officer."

I stared at the screen in pure horror, realizing I was entirely locked out of my own system.

The heavy glass door to my office suddenly swung open.

My CEO, David, stood in the doorway with two armed corporate security guards.

"Claire Dawson, you need to step away from the computer immediately," David ordered with a furious expression.

"The FBI is on their way here right now to arrest you for corporate embezzlement."
